RICE Early Career Researchers (ECR's)
The researchers listed below are early career scientists (less than 5 years post-PhD) who are actively involved in the RICE project.
Dr. Peter Neff Postdoctoral Fellow - University of Rochester, USA Peter completed his dissertation titled Rare Earth Element studies of aerosol composition, transport and provenance from the Roosevelt Island ice core, Ross Sea region, Antarctica at Victoria University of Wellington under the supervision of Nancy Bertler. Peter is now a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Rochester in the US, working with Dr. Vasilii Petrenko.
Dr. TJ Fudge Post-Doctoral Researcher- Earth and Space Sciences, University of Washington, USA T.J.'s interests lie in ice core depth-age scales, glacier sliding, paleo ice flow conditions, glacier mass balance, and snow and firn densification. T.J. is part of the RICE dating team.
Dr. Helle Astrid Kjær Postdoctoral Fellow - Centre for Ice and Climate, University of Copenhagen, Denmark Helle is hired as a postdoc under the European Research Concil (ERC) synergy grant Ice2Ice (www.ice2ice.eu). The project aims to understand the complex feedback between sea ice and land ice. For the RICE project Helle analyses the continuous flow data for Ca, pH, conductivity and particles and is part of the dating team
Dr. Viorela Gabriela Ciobanu Postdoctoral Fellow - Centre for Ice and Climate, University of Copenhagen, Denmark Gabriela's research interest is the reconstruction of past atmospheric conditions by extraction and analysis of air bubbles from polar ice cores. As part of the RICE project, her goal is to reconstruct the stable carbon isotope evolution in atmospheric CO2 (δ13C) archived in the RICE ice core. In addition, she is working on the 17O isotopic abundance in photolysed CO2 samples.
Dr. Jonathan Kingslake Assistant Professor - Columbia University, USA Jonny's research interests lie in the measurement and interpretation of radar measurements.
Dr. Spruce Schoenemann Post-Doctoral Fellow - Earth and Space Sciences, University of Washington, USA Spruce research interests lie in the measurement and interpreation of δ17O excess from ice cores.
