The RICE Project - an international & collaborative scientific endeavour 

Our team in composed a diverse range of researchers, students and engineers from around the world. The RICE project is led by Chief Scientist Associate Prof. Nancy Bertler at the Antarctic Research Centre, Victoria University of Wellington and GNS Science in Wellington, New Zealand. 

This project is the product of a wide range of collaborators from New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden, People's Republic of China, United Kingdom, and the United States. Our field work is supported by Antarctica New Zealand and the United States Antarctic Program.

Associate Prof. Nancy N. Bertler
Project Role: Chief Scientist
Nancy holds a joint position at GNS Science and the Antarctic Research Centre, Victoria University of Wellington. 






Prof. Dorthe Dahl-Jensen 
Project Role: RICE Science Steering Committee
Dorthe is the Director Ice and Climate at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen and sits on the RICE Steering Committee

Prof. Howard Conway
Project Role: RICE Science Steering Committee
Howard (Twit) Conway sits on the RICE Steering Committee and is a Research Professor in Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) at the University of Washington
Alex Pyne
Project Role: Science Drilling Office lead
Alex is the Director of the Science Drilling Office at the Antarctic Research Centre, Victoria University of Wellington. He played a vital role in field planning and project logistics for the RICE project. 

Darcy Mandeno
Project Role: Science Drilling Office Engineer
Darcy led the construction of ice core drill used at Roosevelt Island and organized field logistics for the RICE project.


Ice Core Facility Operations

Rebecca Pyne- Ice Core Laboratory Coordinator & Technician
Project Role: Core Processing Coordinator and Laboratory Manager 
Rebecca oversees and operates the New Zealand National Ice Core Research Laboratory at GNS Science and organized the core processing logistics as well as the analysis of major ion and stable isotope data. She was the leader of the RICE core processing night shift teams.
